Magnetic connectors are very often used during the prototyping of systems - they facilitate and accelerate the process of connecting two modules with each other. DIY Magnetic Connectors were manufactured by Adafruit, similar to MagSafe, and a similar solution can also be found in MacBooks and the littleBits set. The kit consists of two connectors - a female with a 5-pin pogo and a male with a 5-pin. The pins' pitch is 2.54 mm. Attempting to reverse connect the connectors will end up pushing them apart. The connectors can be soldered into your own PCBs.
