E3D X1C/X1E/P1P/P1S Bastion Coated Gears

The extruder is one of the hardest-working components in any 3D printer. Every metre of filament pushed through the system requires dozens of gear rotations, creating constant contact and wear. Over time, standard gears gradually lose their precision, leading to inconsistent extrusion, reduced grip on the filament, and declining print quality.

E3D Bastion Coated Gears are designed to solve this problem. Manufactured from hardened steel and treated with E3D’s proprietary Bastion coating, they offer exceptional resistance to wear while maintaining the precise tolerances required for smooth and reliable filament feeding.

At the heart of Bastion Gears is a specialised Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating applied using a Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) process. Unlike conventional coatings such as Titanium Nitride (TiN), Bastion combines extreme hardness with exceptionally low friction.

The coating achieves a coefficient of friction of just 0.1 against steel, significantly lower than many alternative coatings. This helps reduce wear between moving components, lowers operating friction, and contributes to smoother, more consistent extrusion over time.

Despite its durability, the coating is only 0.005 mm thick, preserving the precision-machined geometry of the gears without adding unwanted bulk.

Carbon fibre-filled, glass fibre-filled, glow-in-the-dark, and other abrasive materials can quickly wear down standard extruder components. Bastion Coated Gears are specifically engineered to withstand these challenging materials, helping maintain consistent performance even after hundreds of hours of printing.

Both the drive gears and hobbs receive the Bastion treatment, ensuring the filament-gripping surfaces retain their sharp profile and feeding accuracy far longer than stock components.

Extensive testing demonstrated that Bastion-coated gears significantly outperform uncoated alternatives in wear resistance. The self-lubricating characteristics of the DLC coating further reduce maintenance requirements while helping preserve smooth operation.

Purchased items are delivered locally through Venipak service. Depending on availability of items, orders are processed within 1-3 work days. Orders made until 1AM are shipped the same day.

Local delivery  (1-4 w.d.) price for items of any size is through through courier service is 4.90€ (incl. VAT), if the amount of the shopping cart exceeds 150€ - delivery is free.

Local delivery price to Venipak parcel terminals (1-3w.d.) is 2.90€ incl. VAT, if the amount of the shopping cart exceeds 50€ - delivery is free.

Local delivery price to Omniva parcel terminals (1-3w.d.) is 3.90€ incl. VAT,if the amount of the shopping cart exceeds 70€ - delivery is free.

Payment on delivery (COD) +2.00€ (incl. VAT).

You can pay for the goods at the time of delivery to the courier in cash or by credit card. Payment to Omniva parcel terminals is only possible by bank card.

A separate delivery fee applies to oversized items, regardless of the amounts and conditions stated above.
