Mach4 is the latest software for controlling the movement of CNC machines from ArtSoft. It was created on the basis of many years of experience gained during the development of the Mach3 program. The Mach4 software was created from scratch to meet all user requirements that could no longer be met in the previous version due to limitations in the code - as the manufacturer states - "Mach4 is a response to the limitations and required changes in Mach3; now the program is more flexible to enable even easier introduction of extensions in the future and to work better with very large files.” The program has been used and tested on industrial machines and has been operating continuously for over two years.
Originally, the Mach3 program was created to control simple machines, mainly for hobby purposes, which it coped with very well. It was so developed that over time it allowed for more and more complex work, also in industrial conditions. However, at this point, for professional solutions in industrial applications, the Mach4 program will be the right choice. It delivers the speed and quality of industrial control systems. It should be emphasized that Mach4 is a completely new program that provides a platform for expansion and modification for new functions.
The Mach3 program was available in only one version, while Mach4 is offered in various versions. Each version of Mach4 is built on the same core. The structure of the Mach4 program is modular, which allows you to expand the functionality of your machine in a faster and easier way.
Attention! Before purchasing a license, please read the product (a demo version is available) and then make a thoughtful purchase, because due to the nature of the product, the license cannot be returned. The purchased license file is sent electronically. Before purchasing the program, you should also check the availability of a plug-in for the Mach4 program from the manufacturer of your controller; all the motion controllers we offer enable cooperation with the Mach 4 program.
The standard Mach4 installer includes screens and profiles with configurations for: milling machines, drilling machines, lathes, routers, knife cutting plotters, plasma and laser cutters and 3D printers. Of course, this is not a complete list of machines controlled by Mach4. It is much longer, but other machines can be quickly configured using standard profiles and screens available in the Mach4 installer. The modular structure of Mach4 allows you to add and remove functions without affecting the operation of the entire system. This aspect significantly increases the flexibility of the application and increases the number of applications. Minimum Hardware Requirements
- Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 - 32- or 64-bit laptop or desktop - using an external motion controller*
- Suitable external motion controller, including plug-in for Mach4 (Plugin)**
- 2 GHz processor
- 1 GB RAM
- Video card with 256 MB RAM (large G-code files, especially 3D files require a video card with 512 MB RAM or more)
* Using the parallel port (LPT) to control the machine only with desktop computers running 32-bit versions of Windows 7 and earlier.
** Before purchasing the program, check the availability of a plug-in for the Mach4 program from the manufacturer of your controller; all the motion controllers we offer enable cooperation with the Mach 4 program.
Similarly to the Mach3 program, in the new version the user can edit the appearance of the program screens to better suit their needs. We can create new tabs containing buttons, graphics and indicators that are required for a given application. Help
After installing the Mach4 Hobby program, you can find the configuration manual and the program use manual (in English) in the main program folder (default: C: Mach4Hobby Docs).
Installation and purchase of license The software can be downloaded on our website in the downloads tab. You can also download it from the manufacturer's website. Once downloaded, the software is a fully working version, but runs in demo mode until you purchase a license. To test the program, we can install a demo version. The demo version is a fully functional program. The program's running time has been limited - after starting the g-code, it will be stopped after a few minutes of operation. The installation should be performed on the computer that we will use to control the machine. This is very important because the license is tied to a specific computer. After running the program in the demo version, go to the Help/About menu. Then, copy the PC ID code that you provide when placing an order for a program license. To obtain the license key, click the "Copy ID To Clipboard" button.IMPORTANT NOTE:
In this version of the program, the software manufacturer used protection against license duplication in the form of a special code assigned to the computer. Please remember that the license is associated with a specific computer.
Therefore, the purchased LICENSE will only work for the computer whose ID was provided when placing the order. Each computer has a unique ID code and the license operates according to this code.
If you upgrade or replace your computer, you will need to contact us to update the license you have purchased from us.
Mach3 vs Mach4 Hobby
If we wanted to choose the closest version to Mach3, it would be the Mach4 Hobby version. However, please remember that the new version is a much more advanced program. The Mach3 is very popular among hobbyists, offering great features at an affordable price. After some modifications, it is also used by many machine manufacturers. The Mach4 program is built as a fully functional CNC machine controller that is capable of fast and precise machining using stepper motors and servo drives. The program follows industry standards used in CNC machines. Please remember that the Mach3 program, unlike its successor, is no longer developed. We therefore recommend using Mach4, even if you think Mach3 has sufficient functions for your needs, as it may not be sufficient in the future. The price of both solutions is similar.
Mach4 Hobby is a fully functional version of the software intended for people interested in using CNC machines for both hobby and professional solutions.
In the hobby version, the manufacturer's technical support for end users is limited to e-mail and online forums. Add-ons, expansions and updates will be available. We are an authorized distributor of the Mach4 program. When purchasing a license in our store, our technical support department is at your disposal if you have any questions about the program.
